“Migration has to be part of the solution to address labour shortages”
In a latest piece on politics.co.uk, RAMP Principal Tim Farron MP argues that migration needs to be part of the solution to address labour shortages in the UK. Drawing on his constituency experience, Tim Farron observes that attempts to attract the domestic workforce, by themselves, have not been sufficient in filling the current shortages in the tourism and hospitality industries in Cumbria, with many businesses still struggling to survive. He advocates for the expansion of migration routes, such as youth mobility visas, that aim to reduce the exploitation of migrant workers by not tying them to specific employers or sectors.
Tim Farron also calls for the PM to allow asylum seekers, who have been waiting more than six months, to work and help reduce shortages in the UK labour market.
