What we do

The Refugee, Asylum and Migration Policy (RAMP) Project’s vision is for the UK to have a world-class migration system which helps to create a successful and integrated society and which is fair to all. We help political leaders to think more deeply and to collaborate more widely on migration, asylum and integration issues to improve the quality and quantity of political debate and subsequent policy outcomes. We do this primarily by seconding high-quality advisers into the teams of a cross-party group of politicians and by acting as the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Migration.

We value trusted, open and relational dialogue; evidenced-based debate; a diversity of opinion and experience; and broad coalitions which bring together unusual allies. We believe that all of these approaches can help to establish genuine common ground and will enable better policy-making in these important areas. Working across party and sector, we help those with the power to make decisions to find practical and innovative solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing Britain.

We are an independent not-for-profit organisation and have a small team to execute the project. Our team includes a number of policy advisers with experience in this field who provide targeted support which enables politicians across both Houses and in city government to make regular, constructive and, where possible, collaborative/cross-party contributions to political and public debates on migration, asylum and refugee resettlement. We also support politicians to scrutinise primary and secondary legislation and to engage with Home Office on critical issues, as well as providing strategic political advice to organisations with expertise in these areas. We in turn are supported by Fragomen LLP and Vialto Partners, who provide legal advice, and training opportunities to our advisers and parliamentarians.

We support to the APPG to be a source of well-evidenced and independent information on key migration issues and to regularly host cross-party events, inquiries and briefings to ensure that parliamentarians can hear from academics, businesses, civil society organisations and those with lived experience of the UK’s migration system to inform their work.
