Under the Borders Bill, Britain will not treat refugees with the humanity they deserve
As the invasion of Ukraine continues to unfold, producing hundreds of thousands of refugees at the borders of European countries, RAMP Principal Tim Farron MP highlights the likely consequences of the Nationality and Borders Bill, which returns to the Commons later this month, on Ukrainians fleeing war. In an article for politics.co.uk, Mr Farron argues that the situation in Ukraine tragically shows that, when a country is invaded by a foreign power and descends into war, civilians are forced to flee in whatever manner they can to reach safety. Against the backdrop of war, he contends, the Nationality and Borders Bill, which gives refugees different entitlements according to their mode of arrival in the UK, does not grant refugees the humanity they deserve.
