“The UK must ditch the hostile environment to avoid another Manston”

In a recent piece in PoliticsHome, RAMP Principal and Labour MP Olivia Blake writes that the terrible conditions at Manston are only a symptom of a broken asylum and immigration system.

She argues that the Manston centre "is not fit for purpose" and must be closed, adding that, while the government should find emergency accommodation with adequate health conditions and availability of legal advice for current residents, it also needs to develop a long-term, sustainable strategy for providing "secure, safe housing for those claiming asylum in the UK".
