The Nationality and Borders Bill is a Dangerous Attack on LGBT+ Refugees
Ahead of a Westminster Hall Debate on LGBT+ and refugees planned for this Wednesday 2nd of February 2022, RAMP Principal Olivia Blake MP wrote a piece on The Independent Voices arguing that the Nationality and Borders Bill further disadvantages LGBT+ refugees, and has a detrimental effect on their rights and quality of life. The article points out that provisions in the Bill seeking to reduce the time for submitting asylum applications and launching appeals further exacerbate problems around LGBT+ asylum seekers’ credibility and having to ‘prove’ the likelihood of persecution if returned to their country of origin. In so doing, the article aims to shine a light on the many problems faced by LGBT+ refugees under this proposed legislation.
