MPs call for cut in welfare delay to help legal immigrant children living in poverty

Chair of the Work and Pension Select Committee and RAMP Principal, Stephen Timms MP, is quoted in the Independent commenting on the Inquiry on Children in poverty: No recourse to public funds published by the Committee on April 14. Stephen Timms commented on the ‘harrowing tales’ heard by the committee about children with the No Recourse to Public Funds Conditions who are forced to live in poverty. Among its recommendations, the report calls for the government to: cut the waiting times in welfare support for migrant children living in poverty; half the time that families with children are subject to NRPF from ten to five years; and grant child benefits to families whose children are British citizens.
